Reportable Conditions Knowledge Management System

Reportable Conditions Knowledge Management System will serve as an authoritative, real-time portal to enhance disease surveillance by providing comprehensive information to public health reporters about the “who, what, when, where and how” of reporting.

The objectives of the RCKMS are to: (1) strengthen disease surveillance in the United States, (2) improve the timeliness and efficiency of public health reporting and (3) examine the variability in reporting across selected pilot conditions. Once complete, RCKMS will provide health care reporters with accurate and timely information needed to promote automated case reporting.

The RCMKS builds on previous work done for the Reportable Condition Mapping Tables (RCMT) and other initiatives related to case reporting. It is also strategically aligned with major national initiatives, such as the HITECH Act, ONC’s S & I Framework for Public Health Reporting, and Meaningful Use Objectives. In 2012, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/ Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) Electronic Laboratory Reporting (ELR) taskforce, recommended development of the RCKMS system as a priority to advance automated case reporting.
