More than 35 million people worldwide are living with HIV. With over 60 years of expertise in preventing and fighting diseases, CDC plays a critical role in helping Ministries of Health in partner countries build strong, sustainable programs that respond effectively to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. CDC provides support to more than 60 countries as a key partner in the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

Recent scientific breakthroughs now point the way to achieving an AIDS-free generation, a goal championed by President Obama in his 2013 State of the Union address. CDC, through PEPFAR, is working to achieve that inspiring goal through proven science, smart investments, and shared responsibility with partner countries.

Over 150 staff from the Division of Global HIV/AIDS have answered the call to assist with the agency’s Ebola response. Read about some of their experiences in countries most impacted by the Ebola outbreak.
