Heartland virus is believed to be spread to people by infected ticks. Cases of Heartland virus disease have been identified in the Midwestern and southern United States. Signs and symptoms of infection are similar to those of other tickborne infections and can include fever, headaches, fatigue (being tired), muscle aches, and diarrhea. There are no vaccines to prevent or medications to treat Heartland virus infections.
The best way to reduce your risk of being infected with Heartland virus is to prevent tick bites.
