Lieutenant Commander Deborah Hastings, MD is an internal medicine physician and medical epidemiologist on the Older Adult Fall Prevention Team within the Division of Unintentional Injury Prevention (DUIP) at the Injury Center. She currently works on improving the ability for clinicians to conduct fall risk screening and assessments by collaborating on projects to implement the Stopping Elderly Adults Deaths and Injuries (STEADI) initiative with healthcare, academic, and government partners.

Dr. Hastings began her career as an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) officer, assigned to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services where she worked on a wide range of public health issues, including injuries among high school athletes.

Dr. Hastings received her MD from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She did her internal medicine residency training at the Mayo Clinic Arizona. Her undergraduate work was done at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where she earned her B.A. in Environmental, Population and Organismic Biology. She earned her master of science in environmental health with a concentration in Epidemiology from Colorado State University where her thesis work was done as a “guest researcher” at CDC-Fort Collins.
