WISQARS™ Fatal Injury Mapping Help Menu
2.2 Scope of Map
The options in this section allow you to specify the scope of a map. The scope consists of the geographic extent of a map (national, multi-state census region, or individual state) and the years of data included.
Census Region / State
You can request a fatal injury map that includes the whole United States, any one of the four multi-state census regions, or any individual state.
Years of Report
By default, the years of report for WISQARS Fatal Injury Mapping cover the period 2008–2014. If a map covers the whole United States or a multi-state census region, and you request state-level rates (see the section Death Rate Calculation Options), you can narrow the years of report to any 3-year period within the default period (2008–2010, 2009–2011, etc.). For maps that show county-level rates, the only reporting period currently available is the default period 2008–2014; a reporting period of this length is often needed in order to calculate reliable rates for many counties across the United States.
