Causes and How it Spreads
Non–infectious meningitis causes include:
- Cancers
- Systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus)
- Certain drugs
- Head injury
- Brain surgery
This type of meningitis is not spread from person to person.
Signs and Symptoms
Meningitis infection is characterized by sudden onset of fever, headache, and stiff neck. It is often accompanied by other symptoms, such as:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Photophobia (sensitivity to light)
- Altered mental status (confusion)
