Objective: Protect workers and the public from exposure to hazardous chemicals and air pollution in nail salons (Safe Nail Salons project) View the 2008 Boston Logic Model Abstract: The Boston Public Health Commission’s Safe Nail Salons project goal is to protect workers and the public from exposure to hazardous chemicals and air pollution in nail salons. Safe Nail Salons will prevent or reduce disproportionate environmental and occupational health effects from the industry on workers, particularly Vietnamese women of childbearing age, and clients who are mostly of color living in low-income communities. Long-term project outcomes will include improved health of the targeted population, reduced air pollution in Boston, improved indoor air quality in salons, increased numbers of individuals connected with healthcare resources, improved public health infrastructure through project sustainability and expansion, and a stronger relationship between the commission and Boston’s Vietnamese community.
Demonstration to show nail salon employees a specially designed vacuum that collects dust and vapors to improve indoor air quality.
