The purpose of this site is to describe the current procedures for collecting and processing data on health insurance coverage in the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS). The NHIS has collected health insurance data periodically since 1959 and annually since 1989. This site also includes a brief description of this history, a glossary of terms, and a guide to finding health insurance coverage estimates based on NHIS data.
