Knowledge & Skill Requirements
The tutorial was structured so that you can start anywhere and move around as you wish. However, later modules build on earlier modules and they assume some familiarity with statistics, environmental chemical data and analysis, and environmental epidemiologic concepts.
Modules 1-4
These modules require:
- Basic familiarity with an Internet browser and computer; and
- No knowledge of statistical software or programming or previous experience with NHANES environmental chemical datasets and files.
Modules 5-10
These modules require:
- Basic knowledge of NHANES laboratory datasets and files;
- Basic knowledge and skills in statistical analyses (e.g. ability to run frequently used descriptive and reference statistics, and correctly interpret the results); and
- Basic knowledge and skills in SAS and SUDAAN statistical software.
Modules 11-13
These modules require:
- Basic knowledge of environmental health and environmental toxicology;
- Basic statistical understanding of survey sampling; and
- Basic statistical understanding of distributions, data transformations and adjustments.
Modules 14-16
These modules require:
- Basic skill in preparing an analytic dataset with NHANES laboratory data;
- Basic knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics, and epidemiologic concepts;
- Basic knowledge and skills in statistical analyses (e.g., ability to run frequently used descriptive and inferential statistics, and correctly interpret the results); and
- Basic knowledge and skills in SAS and SUDAAN statistical software.
