Data Search and Capture
We evaluate all relevant worker and workplace radiation monitoring data needed to complete dose reconstructions, develop technical documents, and evaluate Special Exposure Cohort (SEC) petitions. To retrieve workers’ individual monitoring data, we send requests to the Department of Energy (DOE). Although personal monitoring data is preferred, sometimes this data is unavailable, incomplete, or of poor quality. We also conduct data search and capture activities to locate additional information. They review and retrieve data at various DOE and Atomic Weapons Employer (AWE) sites and at federal and private records storage locations throughout the United States. Phone calls with current and former workers are also sometimes necessary to understand a facility’s work and radiation monitoring practices.

Memorandum of Understanding Between the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Energy
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and DOE signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Fiscal Year 2010. The MOU describes how the Agencies will work together to carry out their responsibilities under The Act [202 KB (35 pages)] and Executive Order 13179 [141 KB (4 pages)].
