Target Audience: This one-day meeting is for all conference attendees who are interested in STD/HIV epidemiology and STD/HIV prevention programs. Participants may include scientists, researchers, prevention program experts; people new to the STD field as well as those with experience.

Goal of this session: To provide a review of the conceptual framework for program science and the global program science initiative; to launch the United States program science initiative; to present panel discussions on issues and priorities in program science and the road map for success in this new approach. Discussions will cover the relevant knowledge bases; relevant research and management issues including strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of prevention programs as well as maximization of returns on prevention investments.

Learning Objectives: By the end of the session, the participant will be able to:

• Define Program Science
• Describe the Global Program Science Initiative
• Describe the U.S. Program Science Initiative being launched
• Describe the training and capacity building needs associated with the program science Initiative
• Describe the Program Science knowledge domains and knowledge tools being developed
