MMWR Introduction
According to the article, "State Smoking Restrictions for Private-Sector Worksites, Restaurants, and Bars; United States, 2004 and 2007," the number of states with laws prohibiting smoking in private-sector worksites, restaurants, and/or bars in the United States tripled (from 8 to 25), and the number with no such laws was halved (from 16 to 8) from January 1, 2005, through December 31, 2007. In every case where a change to an existing law occurred, the restrictions became more protective.
