Youth people experience violence at school especially lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) youth.
While at school, 19% of heterosexual students and 34% of LGB students reported being bullied (during the 12 months before the survey).
While at school, 5% of heterosexual students and 10% of LGB students reported being threatened or injured with a weapon at least once (during the 12 months before the survey).
While at school, 7% of heterosexual students and 11% of LGB students reported being in a physical fight at least once (during the 12 months before the survey).
Prevention is possible!
Be the change in your community.
Enhance safety for all students.
Help prevent bullying and sexual harassment.
Ensure school staff care about who students are and what they learn.
Implement and enforce a school-wide anti-bullying policy.
Improve supervision of students.
Create or join a gay-straight alliance.
Use school rules and classroom behavior monitoring.
Engage parents and caregivers.
Safe and supportive relationships and environments improve education, safety and health for every student.
