Watsonian Society
The Watsonian Society was formed on October 1, 1985, as an organization to foster and continue professional and social relationships among PHAs.
The purpose of the society is to unite Public Health Advisors of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and its predecessor organizations, for the following objectives:
- Contribute to the overall public health management excellence of CDC and ATSDR.
- Recognize, preserve, and advance among CDC and ATSDR Public Health Advisors the professional, personal, and social attributes that have distinguished the career of William C. Watson, Jr. and
- Encourage and maintain professional esprit de corps and general camaraderie among CDC and ATSDR Public Health Advisors.

In the past year, the CDC sponsored employee organization, the Watsonian Society-An Organization for Public Health Advisors, has grown to its largest enrollment in its history. There are now over 600 current and former PHAs across the U.S. (and a few in international assignments) who are currently engaged in the process of renewing and strengthening the Society.

- Passing of Delwin Travis Hammons
Del Hammons was one of the first Public Health Advisors â he started in 1948. He was also a member of the Watsonian Society. Many of our older members have many memories of working with Del and his many contributions to what we know now as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. - Passing of William C Watson, Jr
Bill Watson made such a positive impression in his 36-years career with CDC that two of its hallmarks bear his name. - Death of Former CDC Employee Louis Salinas
