Making Every Dollar Count
What We Do
In our efforts to control both HIV and TB, CDC is committed to saving lives and reducing the impact of these diseases around the world.
To maximize the value of each dollar spent, DGHT experts work alongside Ministries of Health, community groups and other global partners to accelerate the impact and efficiency of HIV and TB programs across the globe. This work includes:
- Conducting innovative, results-driven economic analyses
- Building robust health information systems to ensure that data are accessible to decision-makers
- Providing in-country training to increase the impact of HIV and TB programs
- Implementing activities to strengthen health systems and the health care workforce
Why We Do It
Maximizing the impact of the U.S. government’s investments in the fight against both HIV and TB allows us to save the most lives.
Results
In collaboration with Ministries of Health and other partners, CDC has:
- Developed for the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the first multi-country anti-retroviral treatment cost analysis project to identify key cost drivers and estimate the annual per-patient costs of HIV services
- Led the development of PEPFAR’s Expenditure Analysis Initiative linking results to PEPFAR expenditures and routinely reported results are used to identify program efficiencies

Public-Private Partnership Strengthens Global Laboratory Systems
See how CDC is stretching USG dollars through partnerships to have even greater impact. Innovative partnerships with the private sector like one between CDC, PEPFAR and Becton Dickinson and Company (BD) are one of the most effective ways to leverage taxpayer dollars and make every dollar count.
