The 9th IAS Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2017)

Experts from CDC’s Division of Global HIV & TB (DGHT) set to participate in the 9th International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2017) held in Paris, France from July 23-26, 2017.

This gathering is the largest open scientific conference on HIV-related issues – bringing together a broad cross-section of more than 6,000 professionals from around the world to meet and examine the latest scientific developments in the field of HIV with a focus this year on moving science into practice and policy. IAS 2017 will serve as a platform to showcase key research of the year and highlight new science on preventive and therapeutic vaccinations, improved tools and strategies for PrEP, as well as new insights into areas of personalized medicine and biomarkers.

DGHT researchers will present over 53 oral and poster abstracts at the conference – several of which offer opportunities to highlight critical successes and research within the Division’s key priorities. Specifically, IAS 2017 will feature a Satellite Session on Sunday, July 23, 2017 by DGHT’s Division Director Shannon Hader, MD, MPH, alongside Ambassador-at-Large and U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator Deborah Birx, MD and representatives from ICAP at Columbia University and UNAIDS who will discuss results from the Population-based HIV Impact Assessments (PHIA) and implications for HIV epidemic control efforts. DGHT experts will also be joined by PEPFAR and ICAP colleagues to present data from PHIAs conducted in several sub-Saharan countries that will provide critical information on the status of the HIV epidemic in the region. Additionally, DGHT experts will present several abstract-driven presentations on topics that showcase the latest work from the Division. These include analyses on key issues such as using innovation and data to drive program efforts, combatting drug-resistant TB, and the role of voluntary medical male circumcision as an HIV prevention intervention.
