Funded Areas

CDC supports state, territorial, and local education and health agencies to help build and strengthen their capacity to improve child and adolescent health. These agencies apply for and receive funding in one or more of the following areas: HIV, STD, and unintended pregnancy prevention; and school-based surveillance including the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and the School Health Profiles (Profiles).

CDC also supports national non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to provide capacity-building assistance to education agencies, health agencies, community-based organizations, institutions of higher education, organizations that serve youth and parents, organizations that serve youth at high risk for HIV infection, and CDC-funded NGOs.

State, territorial, and local agencies are currently funded by CDC's Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) under Funding Opportunity Announcement 1308 (August 1, 2013 - July 31, 2018).

HIV, STD, and Unintended Pregnancy Prevention

CDC provides funding for state and local education agencies to help districts and schools deliver exemplary sexual health education emphasizing HIV and other STD prevention (ESHE); increase adolescent access to key sexual health services (SHS); and establish safe and supportive environments for students and staff (SSE). In addition, funding is provided to track policies, educate key decision makers on policy issues, and help districts and schools implement policies, including laws, regulations, procedures, administrative actions, incentives, or voluntary practices of governments and other institutions, related to HIV/STD prevention.
