CDC Seeks Public Comment on the CDC Public Health Protection Research Guide 2006 - 2015
CDC is requesting public input on its new Health Protection Research Guide during a 60-day formal public comment period that begins on November 18, 2005. The public will be able to go to a website and review and provide comments on the Research Guide. Comments can also be submitted, via Email, or by U.S. Mail at the addresses listed above.
The Research Guide will provide a comprehensive, long-range vision of national and global public health needs that CDC and its partners can address through research. The Research Guide will help identify critical knowledge needed to achieve CDC's new health protection goals which are designed to maximize the health impact of programs, services, and emergency responses.
The wide-ranging Research Guide addresses topics of critical interest to the American public including finding new ways to combat infectious diseases such as pandemic influenza, chronic diseases such as cancer and diabetes, injuries, disasters and terrorism, environmental and workplace exposures, and global health burdens. It also highlights new needed developments in genomics, public health informatics, ethics, health disparities between different subsets of the population, and new approaches to sustaining a prepared and high functioning public health workforce. The public will have the opportunity to provide their views about future research avenues to help protect their health.
Federal partners, state and local government and associations, community-based organizations, national and local professional and minority organizations, scientists, businesses, workers, researchers, educators, tribal governments and organizations, and the general public are encouraged to respond.
