Apply to Host a PMR/F

PMR/F learners work in a service learning environment to better understand how to efficiently address major population health issues. Public health, health care, and community health agencies and organizations that host PMR/F learners can address priority public health projects by utilizing learners’ specialized skills in project management, program evaluation, policy analysis, grant management, and community health improvement.

All PMR/F learners are assigned to a federal, state, or local government agency in the U.S. Learners entering the program with state or local public health experience are assigned to federal health agencies while those with experience in federal public health are placed in state or local public health agencies. This placement method helps provide learners with a balanced exposure to different levels of governmental public health.

Host sites interested in hosting a PMR/F should review the host site, supervisory, and funding information included in the drop down boxes below.

Preventive Medicine Resident Clinical Requirements

Preventive medicine residents are required to complete 40 days of patient care in a clinical setting each academic year (approximately one eight-hour day per week). Sites hosting residents must have an appropriately credentialed physician willing to supervise the resident during clinic hours.

The PMR/F program has established relationships with clinical sites in Atlanta, GA, and Washington, D.C., which enable residents to meet this requirement.

Host sites outside of these locations must indicate on their position description how they will provide access to a clinic within a reasonable distance from the worksite that will support residents in accord with Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accreditation policies.

Host sites unable to provide access to a clinic site will only be eligible to host preventive medicine fellows.

How to Apply

Host site applications open in early October. To apply to host a PMR/F learner, host sites must submit a position description[PDF – 3 pages] to PrevMed@cdc.gov by the deadline indicated in the Key Dates drop down below. The PMR/F program will also solicit previous host sites for their interest in hosting a resident or fellow. The program aims to have at least three potential host site opportunities for each incoming learner.

Host sites should review the biography of each learner to consider whether one or more of them would be a good fit for your site before applying.
