Samuel Taveras, M.Ed., MPH

Associate Director for Partnership Support

Samuel Taveras, MEd, MPH, is the associate director for partnerships in CDC’s Office for State, Tribal, Local and Territorial Support. Taveras provides leadership for agency-wide support and coordination of public health partnerships; leads a team of public health advisors and analysts in administering umbrella cooperative agreements with national public health partners, such as the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, the American Public Health Association, and the National Association of City and County Health Officials; and works collaboratively across CDC to ensure CDC-funded public health partner contributions are integrated with and add value to CDC’s public health mission and activities.

Taveras has been with CDC for nearly 21 years and has worked in public health for 27 years. He began his public health career as a health educator and counselor at a local health department in Miami, Florida. Taveras served as a senior state representative for HIV/AIDS prevention services in South Florida and as the health center administrator for the Dade County Family Medical Center. At CDC, Taveras held branch chief positions in several CDC divisions, including the Division of HIV/AIDS and the Division of Partnerships and Strategic Alliances. Taveras also served as team leader for national capacity building assistance projects and for HIV/AIDS prevention services across the country. He served in the role of project officer for community-based organizations; city, territorial, and state health departments; and national and regional minority organizations. Prior to his public health work, Taveras worked at the University of Massachusetts as an educator, student advisor, and residence hall director.

Taveras received his bachelor of science in education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, his master of education from the University of Massachusetts, and his master of public health from the University of South Florida.
