- Zika prevention counseling and education
- Vector control services, such as spraying insecticide and installing screens in their homes
- Zika prevention kits that include insect repellent, bed nets, condoms, and larvicides
- Florida’s health and education departments have partnered to protect students from Zika by
- Providing guidance and resources for public schools and state universities
- Requiring schools to have procedures in place to quickly deal with suspected cases
- Giving out insect repellent
- Linking schools with local health departments so that clinic staff can be trained in preventing and identifying Zika
- The Texas Department of State Health Services has a dedicated Zika website that outlines its Preparedness and Response Plan and has information for residents, pregnant women, and healthcare professionals.

- Hawaii recently passed historic legislation making it the first state to prohibit the sale, purchase, possession, or consumption of cigarettes, other tobacco products, and e-cigarettes to anyone under age 21.

- California and 6 other states are experiencing an outbreak of measles linked to a Disney theme park that started in December 2014; at least 125 people are considered part of this outbreak.
- US residents can be exposed to measles in the United States at venues with large numbers of international visitors, such as tourist attractions and airports.

- Three years after Connecticut began requiring flu vaccination for children in licensed child care, flu-related hospitalizations of preschool-aged children decreased 12%.
- The Public Health Foundation is testing a Public Health Antibiotic Stewardship Driver Diagram in Maine, Connecticut, and Independence, Missouri, to help public and clinical health care work together to reduce antibiotic-resistant infections. California, Georgia, Indiana [PDF 391KB], and Minnesota, among other states, also have antibiotic stewardship resources.
