Zika Resources for Tribes
Zika virus disease is caused by the Zika virus and can be spread to people primarily through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito. Zika can be passed from a pregnant woman to her baby. Infection during pregnancy can cause certain birth defects. Zika is not currently being spread by mosquitos in the continental United States. Below you’ll find some helpful resources for learning more about Zika.

The National Indian Health Board, in conjunction with CDC and the Association of American Indian Physicians, hosted a Zika briefing call for all tribes on March 22, 2016. Topics included vector issues, epidemiology and surveillance, pregnancy and birth defects, laboratory testing, traveler and border health, and blood safety.
