In addition to direct technical assistance to Ministries of Health and partner organizations in resource-constrained countries to develop sustainable, integrated quality laboratory services, CDC develops a wide range of critical laboratory resources.
African Centre for Integrated Laboratory Training
With an end goal of increasing laboratory technicians and health care workers trained in TB and HIV diagnostics throughout Africa, CDC partnered with the South African public health laboratories and other national and international partners to establish and support the African Centre for Integrated Laboratory Training (ACILT) in Johannesburg. This training center now provides much needed hands-on training to laboratorians from countries facing a high burden of disease. Learn more »
Laboratory Training Courses
ACILT develops and presents hands-on training courses for front-line laboratory staff, including Early Infant Diagnosis (EID), TB Culture and Identification, TB smear microscopy, Strengthening laboratory management towards accreditation (SLMTA), Biosafety and Infrastructure Development and more. Rapid HIV Test Training Package
CDC designed and implemented, in collaboration with the WHO, the rapid HIV test training package to assist individuals worldwide with the knowledge and skills necessary to establish policies and to perform testing in a manner that will assure rapid reporting of test results that are reliable and accurate.
