HIV Prevention Resources
Prevention is the only long-term, sustainable means to suppress the global HIV/AIDS epidemic. As such, PEPFAR seeks to prevent 12 million new infections by 2013. In addition to providing direct technical assistance to Ministries of Health and other partner organizations in resource-constrained countries, CDC is helping to reach this goal by providing leadership in the development of critical HIV prevention resources.

HIV Testing and Counselling
A practical handbook for Sub-Saharan Africa Home-based HIV testing and counselling (HBHTC) refers to HIV testing and counselling (HTC) services conducted by trained HTC service providers in someone’s home. The main purpose of HBHTC is to bring HTC services to households, overcoming some of the barriers of access to testing services and providing testing to individuals who might not otherwise seek services. It has been used successfully in rural and urban populations of sub-Saharan Africa with a high HIV prevalence and low coverage of HTC services.

Couples HIV Counseling and Testing Intervention and Training Curriculum
Through the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), CDC has collaborated with the Rwanda Zambia HIV Research Group (RZHRG), the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), and other national and international partners to develop the Couples HIV Counseling and Testing (CHCT) Intervention and Training Curriculum. The curriculum was developed in response to increased demand from field partners for interventions and training that would help them address the complex issues related to HIV counseling and testing with couples, who currently constitute the largest risk group in Africa for HIV transmission.
