NPHI Stories: Cambodia: Stakeholders Support NIPH Strategic Plan
For a country’s public health system to function well, stakeholders with different public health roles must work together closely. Cambodia’s National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) recently took an important step—asking stakeholders for their input on the organization’s strategy. With technical assistance from CDC and the International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI), NIPH presented their new strategic plan, discussed common goals with stakeholders, and built partnerships to improve the health of Cambodians.
Participating stakeholders agreed on important priorities, including gaining recognition for the public health workforce, developing a national research agenda, and strengthening laboratory quality assurance programs. Partners showed interest in supporting the NIPH mission and in developing new, stronger relationships with NIPH. “NIPH has received great suggestions on how to move forward towards achieving planned goals over the next five years” says Cambodia’s Secretary of State for Health, Professor Eng Huot. Going forward, CDC and NIPH will continue building partnerships, and will use stakeholder input to develop an action plan that addresses these public health priorities.
