Personal Stories: Demetrise
My Physical Activity Routine/Program
I have been exercising on and off for many years, but recently started to make an effort to be physically active every day. I try to go to one class at the gym each day, either during lunch or after work. I do all sorts of classes in order to keep it interesting, like strength training, abdominal workouts, and Tae Kwon Do. And sometimes I run on the treadmill or use the elliptical machine.

Why I Started
I got very sick. I had to have surgery and take off from work for about two months. After the surgery, I developed some complications. I began to think that my stress was contributing to these complications, so I started being physically active regularly in order to calm down and reduce my stress.
Benefits
I feel so much more energetic now. I can walk straight up the escalator without getting tired.
How I Fit It In
I go to the gym after work, or I’ll go during lunch and then eat at my desk, depending on my schedule. I make it a priority.
Biggest Challenge
The hardest part is getting to the gym. When I don’t feel like going, I try to push myself even harder to go. When I don’t go, then I make sure I go the very next day.
Greatest Achievement/Biggest Thrill
Getting rid of the fat. All my clothes are too big for me now. I like the fact that nothing fits and I need to go shopping.
