Personal Stories: Susan
My Physical Activity Routine/Program
I go to the gym two nights a week where I do 40 minutes of cardio on a machine. When I’m done, I do 30 minutes of weight lifting of my upper and lower body and my core using the weight machines. At least one day a week, I take a bike ride or go on a long walk, sometimes with my husband and kids, or by myself. I also try to do yoga at least once a week at night and try to get to the gym again on the weekends.

Why I Started
As I’m getting older, if I don’t do some kind of physical activity I start feeling out of shape and really grumpy. I also have to keep up with my kids. I got started parenting late, and I need to be here for my kids for many more years.
Benefits
I feel better and can keep up with my kids.
How I Fit It In
My gym has a daycare that my kids seem to enjoy, so I take them there while I workout. I usually do my physical activity in the evenings after work or on the weekends.
Biggest Motivation
I try to stay in shape and look good, but it’s really more for my kids – to be healthy for them.
Biggest Challenge
Time and juggling all of the things I have to get done as a working mom.
Greatest Achievement/Biggest Thrill
I don’t feel like I’m 45 most of the time. I can probably keep up with someone who is 35. I don’t feel like I’m middle aged.
