On February 12, 2016, Garden of Life, LLC expanded its recall of RAW Meal Organic Shake & Meal chocolate, original, vanilla, and vanilla chai products to include additional lots. Visit the FDA website for a complete list of recalled products.

On January 29, 2016, Garden of Life, LLC voluntarily recalled a limited quantity of its RAW Meal Organic Shake & Meal products available in chocolate, original, vanilla, and vanilla chai because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella Virchow. These products were sold in sizes ranging from single serving packets to full size and were available for purchase nationwide in many retail stores and online.

Advice to Consumers & Retailers

Recalled Garden of Life RAW Meal products have a long shelf life and may still be in people’s homes.

• Consumers should check their homes for any of the recalled RAW Meal products and should not eat them.
• The recalled RAW Meal products were sold nationwide in retail stores and online.

What to do if you have any of the recalled RAW Meal products:

• Throw away the product immediately or return it to the store where it was purchased.
• Even if some of the RAW Meal product has been eaten without anyone getting sick, you should throw the rest away.
• When you throw it away, put it in a closed plastic bag and place the bag in a sealed trash can. This will prevent other people or animals from eating it.

Retailers should not sell the recalled Garden of Life RAW Meal products.

Recalled Garden of Life RAW Meal products may make people sick.

• This is especially important for children under the age of 5 years, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. These groups of people are more likely to have a severe illness from a Salmonella infection.
• People who think they might have become ill from eating a recalled Garden of Life RAW Meal product should talk to a health care provider. Symptoms include:
  • Diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection.
  • The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most persons recover without treatment.
