Special Topics in Cancer
CDC provides information about a variety of cancer topics.
- HPV and Cancer: Human papillomavirus (HPV) has been found to be associated with several kinds of cancer: cervical, vulvar, vaginal, penile, anal, and oropharyngeal (back of the throat, including the base of the tongue and tonsils).
- Tobacco and Cancer: Smoking tobacco products causes almost nine of every 10 cases of lung cancer, and also can cause cancer almost anywhere in your body.
- Preventing Infections in Cancer Patients: People receiving chemotherapy are at risk for developing an infection when their white blood cell count is low.
- Cancer, the Flu, and You: If you have cancer now or have had cancer in the past, you are at higher risk for complications from the seasonal flu or influenza, including hospitalization and death.
- Health Disparities in Cancer: CDC monitors trends and patterns in cancer incidence and mortality and identifies which populations are disproportionately affected by the disease.
- Cancer Survivorship: As the number of cancer survivors grows, CDC is working with partner organizations to help survivors, along with the people in their lives, throughout their cancer experience.
