San Francisco Department of Public Health

  San FranciscoThe mission of SFDPH is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans. SFDPH strives to assess and research the health of the community, provide comprehensive, quality, and culturally competent health services, educate the public and train health care providers, and ensure equal access to all. SFDPH has three major divisions:

  1. the Community Health Network (CHN) includes the personal health care services division of the SFDPH and offers direct patient care, including two public hospitals and Jail Health Services;
  2. Population Health & Prevention (PHP) represents the population-level services, which includes Communicable Disease Control & Prevention, HIV Epidemiology, HIV Prevention, STD Prevention & Control, Tuberculosis Control, and other programs that impact all San Franciscans; and
  3. Community Programs, which represents sections that work within both CHN and PHP structures, and includes Primary Care, Community Behavioral Health Services, HIV Health Services, and Housing & Urban Health.

SFDPH acts as the "safety-net" of health services for the city's indigent and low-income populations, and is also responsible for implementing population-level public health promotion and prevention efforts. The ECHPP grant is housed within the HIV Prevention Section of the Department, under the PHP Division, but the ECHPP project activities include collaborations across all health department sections. Collaborators include STD Prevention & Control, San Francisco General Hospital, Community Behavioral Health Services, HIV Health Services, and many others. Together, these collaborators strive to achieve the goals of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy in all of their programs.
